Yesterday we celebrated Divine Mercy Sunday which was instituted by Saint John Paul II in the year 2000. Jesus appeared to Sr. Faustina (now Saint Faustina) and gave her the mission to spread the message of Divine Mercy across the world. His words to her were simple, “Humanity will not find peace until it turns trustfully to divine mercy.” The message is simple and clear. It’s one of complete and total surrender to Jesus. It’s one of complete forgiveness and compassion.
In those moments when we find it difficult and challenging to love ourselves we can turn to this message for comfort. When we’re overcome with shame for eating too much , or guilt for skipping out on a workout, or feeling as if we’re not good enough, we can entrust our lives to the Lord with a cry from the heart of “Jesus I trust in you!” It’s this act of complete and total trust in Jesus that we can fine the strength to look upon ourselves with compassion and love. Ultimately recognizing that His mercy, love, compassion, and forgiveness is never ending. With this infinite love and mercy, we can choose to let it permeate our hearts so that we too can look upon ourselves with more compassion, love, and forgiveness fostering an authentic and grateful heart for the person God has created us to be.
